While it is possible to have minimal affiliate marketing success without a website or blog, building a sustainable online business will require you to have an online ‘home’, a centralized presence online to base your affiliate marketing activities from.
The importance of this base cannot be overstated – you’ll use it to draw free traffic from the search engines, social networking and social bookmarking sites, article directories, podcast and video hosting sites and community sites like Twitter, Facebook and the various forums you visit.
And once those targeted visitors have arrived at your base, you’ll use it to presell them – to warm them up and put them in the buying mood – before sending them along via your affiliate marketing links. And during that visit, where prudent & possible, you’ll get that visitor to opt-in to your mailing list – otherwise those warm leads may well be lost forever once they depart from your site.
Currently, affiliate marketing blogging is the route most likely to succeed for you in this area. While static sites are still effective, they take much more time, effort and knowledge of HTML and/or CSS to keep current. For example, affiliate buttons and banners can be added or removed from every page of a blog by editing one file – on a website, each page would need to be done individually.
Additionally, adding new content to an affiliate marketing blog simply requires you to type in your message and publish the post – all of the linking by category, date, subject tags and other navigation is done automatically by the blog operating system. The WordPress blog platform, which is most commonly used, can also be configured to then notify the major search engines each time new content is added, along with dozens of directories that index blogs only and are not available to static site owners.
Perhaps most importantly, though, is that an affiliate marketing blog can be installed and up and running in 15 – 20 minutes by even those with no programming experience, following available step-by-step instructions in How To Install Blogs videos…

Affiliate marketing blogs are amongst the most powerful tools in your affiliate toolbox, but it’s important to be sure you’re achieving the greatest possible benefit from the efforts you put in authoring these or any blogs. So to start with, you need to always keep in mind the main reasons for using a blog as one of your affiliate marketing strategies.
The foremost reason, of course, is to drive sales by attracting and forwarding targeted prospects to the merchants’ sites via your affiliate links. But in with that are other purposes that help you achieve that goal at the same time. For example, arriving at a blog that’s full of helpful information gives the visitor the impression that the author is an expert in their topic, and thereby someone whose suggestions are liable to be helpful. And since search engines index pages, not sites, each additional post to your blog is one more potential signpost to lead targeted prospects to your blog in the first place.
So how do you determine which blog topics to write about – which topics will help you stand out as an expert in your field, bring in more targeted readers, and help build your affiliate marketing commissions to higher and higher levels as time goes on? You need to find the answers to people’s most common questions in your niche and write posts that either answer those questions or lead them to products and services that answer those questions – via your affiliate links, of course!
But before you can write those helpful answers, you need to know what the questions are. There are any number of ways to find them, from simple steps like visiting Yahoo Answers and niche-specific forums to more advanced techniques like searching for your niche keywords in Twitter streams. And don’t limit your research to online sources – in any profitable niche or sub-niche there are also books and magazines on the topic, so browse through a few of the most popular publications to see what topics they’re using to attract a targeted audience.
And, of course, your initial keyword research when you first decided this was a popular niche will provide plenty of topics as well – after all, each popular keyword represents thousands of searches a month, and those prospects are searching for information. Look at your initial list of keywords and pick the ten best to target first. Start by writing 5 different headlines that use & target that particular keyword, then write a post for each headline and post it to your affiliate marketing blogs.
It may take you a bit of practice to be able to come up with 5 different ways to approach each keyword, but it’s well worthwhile since you already know those phrases are being searched for regularly and every post you write is one more potential search engine results page listing that can bring people into your funnel. Plus, that targeted visitor will find the post they landed on and 4 more on the same topic of interest to them, and then other posts on related topics as well.
You’ve answered their questions or at least shed light on the issue for them and they now recognize you as an expert in your niche. So your credibility is already established when they read a product review post or a pre-sell page you’ve written, either of which can now lead them to the merchants’ sites through your affiliate links.
There will always be more questions people have, more keywords showing up in your research, and more ways to approach each keyword or keyword phrase you’re targeting on your affiliate marketing blogs. Combine this powerful list of topics with your ever-increasing ability to come up with creative ways to incorporate those terms and ideas into new blog posts, and your affiliate marketing blogs can keep on growing year after year successfully!

Affiliate Marketing Blogs Success Tips

All over the Internet you’ll find affiliate marketing blogs that have been abandoned – not blogs about affiliate marketing, but blogs that would-be marketers had set up to promote affiliate opportunities. So why have these blogs been abandoned?
In some cases, the blog was set up to promote just one offer or one event – and after that’s finished, the marketer has no further use for the blog. In essence, they turned what could have been a great long-term tool into a resource that would benefit them in the short-term only. Far wiser to have a blog that covers one whole niche or popular sub-niche, so that additional offers could have been presented after the initial one ended, thereby further capitalizing the traffic flow built during that early push.
But a far more common cause of affiliate marketing blogs being abandoned is the authors’ lack of experience in marketing, which leaves them not knowing what more to blog about. For both super-affiliates and super-bloggers alike, this isn’t an issue – they know there’s always more to write about on any topic.
For affiliates, there are three common types of blog posts:
* Posts giving information of interest to your target market;
* Post giving reviews of software or services you’re promoting; and
* Posts written to drive traffic directly to the affiliate offer.
Taken in reverse order, the traffic-driving posts are really ‘pre-sell’ pages where you warm the prospect up to a particular product then send them through to the merchant’s site via your affiliate link. This type of pre-sell is especially important if you feel the salespage is weak or is missing one or more key features you think would help boost conversions. These posts are as close as you’ll come to a hard-sell attitude on your blog, so use them somewhat sparingly unless your target group is hard-core marketers or MLM pros.
Review posts are always popular, but you must be careful here. Don’t damage your reputation and credibility by writing a review for a product you haven’t actually tried yourself, and never use canned reviews written by anyone else. Where possible use screenshots to aid in your description, to help your SEO rankings for that post, and to show that yes, you really do have the product or use the service you’re reviewing. One caveat though: recent US legislation demands full disclosure on reviews, so be sure to mention it if you’re given free access to the product so you could write the review.
Finally, we come to the ‘never-ending’ source of blog posts – general information of interest to your target market. What are they interested in? Start by looking at topics covered by the products you promote, add to it the questions most frequently asked in related forums and at Yahoo Answers and similar sites. Then do a search for your niche or sub-niche on each of the main search engines and see what areas of the niche are getting the most action. Between those 3 sources you’ll always find new ideas for posts, and these informational posts are the ones that will help most in search engine placements, in attracting repeat readers and in building your credibility as an expert source in your niche or sub-niche.
While affiliate marketing blogs are just one aspect of successful affiliate strategies, they are the one area where you always have more to do and can always improve upon what’s there already. And handled properly, you’ll never need to abandon your blogs but instead will find them an ongoing source of affiliate commissions as your virtual real estate empire grows!

If you’re doing any serious affiliate marketing, you’re already running, or trying to run, money-making blogs. If you aren’t, you’re missing a big area and most likely leaving money on the table – ANY effective affiliate marketing plan these days has to include blogging as one of your tactics to drive traffic to your squeeze pages and affiliate links.
Yet the majority of bloggers will never make any real money with their blogs – not because they don’t write enough, or pick the wrong topics, but because they haven’t set their blog up right to maximize their affiliate marketing activities. Especially now with fantastic push-button affiliate tools like ClickBank Pirate and Affiliate Silver Bullet, and blog advertising tools like Automating Traffic, not having a cool blog set up to earn you money is just, well, silly!
When I released Secrets of the Super-Bloggers and wrote Blogging For Affiliates 5 years ago, the whole affiliate blogging thing was fairly new – so much has changed since then that I’ve pulled BFA off the market until I have a chance to revise and update it. Mike has taken great pains with the 10 step-by-step how-to videos in Profitable Blog Steps, and it should have been $197 or $297 product – but the way the economy is today he priced it at just $47, which is a real boon for you! Even better, during this first week of launch it’s just $27, but even at $47 it’s practically a steal, so don’t miss out on this training if you want a profitable affiliate marketing blog or two!
Looking through the evaluation copy Mike gave me, I see the topics for the videos are:
